Theo quan niệm Nho gia, đến tuổi năm mươi con người đã đủ từng trải và chín chắn để hiểu rõ lẽ đời và biết thuận theo số mệnh. Thường dùng để nói về độ tuổi đạt đến sự thấu hiểu, điềm tĩnh và tự ý thức sâu sắc.

In Confucian thought, by the age of fifty a person has gained enough wisdom and experience to understand the principles of life and accept destiny. It is used to refer to the maturity and insight associated with that stage of life.
